Description

Participants will be able to define several local native plant species which have traditionally been used for medicinal or healing purposes and describe how they have been utilized. They will use this knowledge to create one or more of their own medicinal remedies. Students will also be able to discuss how eating plant-based foods can be considered a form of preventative medicine.

Topics of exploration: Angelica, Manzanita, Elderberry, Cow Parsnip, Monkey Flower, Mugwort, Larkspur, Bleeding Heart, Wild Iris; 4 sacred herbs given by Grandfather and the Grandmothers were sage, cedar, sweet grass, and tobacco; magic and medicine.
